About the song "In My Pocket" and my first music video!

In My Pocket: Who Decides Where We Belong? A song about labels, belonging, and our habit of dividing the world into “us” and “them”

Have you ever noticed how quickly we put people into categories?

People who think like us. People who don't. Those who belong. Those who don't quite fit in. The ones we agree with, and the ones we sometimes dismiss before we've even heard what they have to say.

That's the idea behind my song “In My Pocket”. This is a hip-hop, funk and pop blend with a punch song.

The song plays with a simple metaphor: we all seem to carry two imaginary pockets. One for the people, opinions and ideas we welcome. And another for everything that doesn't quite fit our view of the world.

The funny thing is that we all do it, often without even realizing it.

And while having different opinions is perfectly natural, I sometimes wonder what happens when our need to be right becomes more important than our willingness to understand.

Musically, “In My Pocket” is also a little different from many of my other songs. It combines rhythmic, attitude-filled male rap with melodic female vocals, creating a playful contrast that reflects the tension in the lyrics.

And now, my first experiment with a music video!

I've also been exploring something new: bringing the song to life visually through an AI-generated music video.

It's been a fascinating creative experiment, discovering how images, movement, characters and atmosphere can add another dimension to the music. And sometimes the technology has its own rather unexpected ideas about what should happen next!

The result is a music video that brings a new perspective to “In My Pocket”, and I'm excited to share it with you.

You can watch the mobile version also on YouTube here:

As always, I don't want to tell you exactly how to interpret the song. Perhaps you'll recognize something in other people. Perhaps something in yourself. Or perhaps you'll simply enjoy the music.

But here's a little thought to take with you:

What if the people we've placed in the wrong pocket are sometimes the ones who have the most to teach us?

Enjoy the music, and I'd love to hear what you think of the video!

Love,

Alicia Z.
